He Could Save Millions of Souls!

Portrayed as a hero by every “camelot nastalgic” democrat, Ted Kennedy has spent his career promoting abortion, partial-birth abortion, embryonic stem cell research, the demise of traditional marriage, etc., etc.  All of which is a giant thumbing of his nose at some of his Catholic Church’s most sacred beliefs and teachings.

Beyond this, Ted Kennedy has portayed a lifestyle to the youth of America only rivaled by another democratic standout in Bill Clinton.

What Happened? It wasn’t always this way with Ted and his party. My family, and virtually every Catholic in America, clung to this “party for the masses.”  John F. Kennedy is emblazoned in every Catholic’s memory, especially as he called us to live selfless lives for our country. Truly this was a party that promoted family values and virtue driven lives.

In fact, you’ll never believe who wrote this impassioned letter in 1971, two years before Roe v. Wade:

“Wanted or unwanted, I believe that human life, even at its earliest stages, has certain right which must be recognized – the right to be born, the right to love, the right to grow old. . . . But once life has begun, no matter at what stage of growth, it is my belief that termination should not be decided merely by desire. I share the confidence of those who feel that America is willing to care for its unwanted as well as wanted children, protecting particularly those who cannot protect themselves. I also share the opinions of those who do not accept abortion as a response to our society’s problems . . . . When history looks back on this era it should recognize this generation as one which cared about human beings enough to halt the practice of war, to provide a decent living for every family, and to fulfill its responsibility to its children from the moment of conception.” (Kennedy Letter, August 3, 1971)

Yes, this was Senator Edward Kennedy, in a time when we truly were trying to promote a more civilized “camelot” of good versus evil. Indeed, what happened?

And now, as William Bennett writes in this “My Old Party” piece:

“… the Democratic party is about to nominate a far left candidate in the tradition of George McGovern, albeit without McGovern’s military and political record. The Democratic party is about to nominate a far-left candidate in the tradition of Michael Dukakis, albeit without Dukakis’s executive experience as governor. The Democratic party is about to nominate a far left candidate in the tradition of John Kerry, albeit without Kerry’s record of years of service in the Senate. The Democratic party is about to nominate an unvetted candidate in the tradition of Jimmy Carter, albeit without Jimmy Carter’s religious integrity as he spoke about it in 1976. Questions about all these attributes (from foreign policy expertise to executive experience to senatorial experience to judgment about foreign leaders to the instructors he has had in his cultural values) surround Barack Obama. And the Democratic party has chosen him.”

This is all before we begin to look at the horror of Obama’s support of infanticide.

This is not your Father’s Democratic Party.

I’m not writing to answer the question, “what happened?” … only to raise the point that it DID happen. And, with 50 million innocents a year slaughtered worldwide at stake (before factoring the millions of embryos destroyed every year), I happen to be one of those who wonders how a person can remain Catholic after voting for any proponent of this holocaust. But, before we hear from the teaching authority of the Church on this, I remain silent. However, as Catholics, I encourage all to PLEASE take this decision VERY seriously.

Finally, I ask you to pray for this man as his poor health has threatened his days remaining with us on earth. Please pray with me for this man who spent his life living the Augustinian way (pre-conversion). Monica managed to save her son through her prayers, when conversion seemed absurd. She believed, and we must too, that with God all things are possible.

Imagine the good Ted Kennedy could do if he renounced the way his party strayed into becoming the party of death. Just imagine how many he is leading into hell with him, if he does not.

If Ted Kennedy repented on behalf of his party, He Could Save Millions of Souls!
