“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”‘ (1 Cor 1:18-19).
The title of the series speaks to the fact that a once civilized society is more and more becoming a barbaric society that, among many other atrocities, kills their young, devalues marriage and family and, while objectifying each other, has reduced the sacred act of procreation to a base (animalistic) act of self-indulgence. Each part of this series will unearth another contributing force leading us away from Christ — our Omega Point, who we are are evolving into — and toward the “man without the Spirit” (just another animal species).
Today we woke up to yet another assault on our poor Bishop Morlino (here) from the self-elevating elites of the People’s Republic of Madison. The letter referenced was an ad, so it did not appear online. It’s main gripes were regarding the need to dismiss an openly practicing homosexual from a parish ministry position, and additional gripes toward a couple traditional parishes who are nurturing priestly vocations by giving the altar server role exclusively to boys.
With this next assault weighing on my mind, I was getting showered and dressed, and I popped in a CD on the bible (I often listen to bible CDs in the shower). One of the very first lines was this (my jaw dropped as I listened):
“I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people” (Romans 16:17-18).
Here was someone — Greg Gunfeld — on Fox and friends Sunday who when asked about whether Senator McCain should speak about Senator Obama’s shady associations expressed, rather boldly, the frustration many good people are feeling over the past 8 years:
“It kills me that liberals are coming out against mean-spiritedness. It’s like OJ coming out against domestic violence. I mean for the last 8 years they’ve called Bush Hitler, they’ve called Cheney Satan, they basically painted Sarah Palin as the red-neck anti-Christ … whenever a conservative gets sick or dies, the left-winged blogs basically dance on their graves. These people created the book on cruel. And the only reason they are telling McCain not to be mean is because he’s actually tackling real issues – the Aires and the ACORN controversy … they’re REAL.”
For many of us in the Madison area, this bishop-bashing, like all of this over-the-top attacking, was the last straw … it has gotten very, very old and we are all very, very tired of these childish temper tantrums being unleashed against our Pastor!
In the days ahead, I hope to post related material to help us understand this pandemic of nastiness and push toward barbarism that never ceases to take us by surprise.
